Discover the World Beyond Northern California

In the beginning, I traveled as a girl with my military family, from California to Virginia, back again, and then on to Hawaii. When I grew up, I settled back in my home state, California. But the wanderlust I developed during those early years never left me.

Wolf, on the other hand, grew up in Saint Paul, Minnesota with parents who didn't drive and didn't even own a car. He took buses where he had to get to, and barely ever left the city limits. When he grew up and bought a car, he took off and never looked back.

That's how we ended up together in Northern California, exploring our little piece of the world. We dragged our kids all over NorCal - visiting historic sites; exploring everything from discovery museums to tide pools to zoos; stopping along the roadside to see how almonds and cotton and raisins grow.

Since those early days, Wolf and I have been fortunate enough to have had many opportunities to expand our travels beyond Northern California, and -  although it's a departure from our normal Discover Northern California topics, we thought it would be fun to share some of our other travel adventures with you!

Follow Us as We Discover Southern California

Having lived in Southern California - and having Kids and Grandkidlettes who live there still - Wolf and I have lots of SoCal adventures to share with you! Adventures that you'll want to experience with your friends and families!

Adventures like exploring Venice Beach or Balboa Island; taking in Disneyland, SeaWorld, or Knott's Berry Farm; Universal Studios and Hollywood; hitting the beaches; discovering the museums, observatories, and La Brea Tar Pits.

Follow us to San Diego for some of our favorite things to do there...

• Seaport Village (shop and dine along the elegant San Diego waterfront)...
• Old Town (experience the Mexican Pueblo that was the original San Diego)...
• San Diego's Wild Animal Park (the closest you'll get to Africa without leaving California!)...
• SeaWorld San Diego (did you know you can pet and feed the white Beluga Whales AND the dine with Shamu?)...
• The Gaslamp Quarter (kind of an Insider's Secret and San Diego's nod to its historic heart!).

And even more of our Insider Secrets for Southern California:

• Crystal Cove State Park (rent a cottage on the beach of a 1930s "accidental" seaside colony or explore the beaches and the Historic District!)...

• Newport Beach Harbor (have an adventure in an electric party boat, or tandem kayak while you explore the Harbor!)...
• Balboa Island (as long as we're here, let's explore Balboa, strolling the waterfront boardwalk, browsing the shops, while enjoying our Balboa Bars!)...

Discovering the World
Follow Us as We Discover the United States

In the course of our travels Wolf and I have visited some of the most romantic and interesting cities in the United States!

Such as the time we spent in San Antonio, staying along the beautiful and famous San Antonio River Walk. We'll share some of the fun shops and exquisite restaurants we discovered there!

Come and explore Alaska's Inland Passage with us, including stops in the frontier towns of Ketchikan, Juneau, and Skagway, plus a visit to Denali and a train ride through the mountains!

We have the perfect suggestions for two weeks in Washington, D.C. You won't even need a car for the first week!

We've been to Ashland, Oregon in the past, but we have another trip coming up soon with three other couples. Stay tuned for that - always a lot to explore in Ashland!

Then there are these favorites:

• Miami and adjacent South Beach (fabulous clubs, restaurants, shopping, and entertainment - right on the water!)...
• New Orleans (with its French Quarter, Cajun food, Jazz music, and Mardi Gras!)...
• And the Florida Keys - especially Key West (driving the Overseas Highway from Miami to Florida is one of my most memorable treats!)

Follow Us as We Discover the World

One of the first trips we ever took outside the United States was to Kenya for a Wildlife Safari. Absolutely the trip of a lifetime!

Between then and now, we've had the good fortune to visit:

• Australia (from Sydney to Cairns, and smack-dab through the Outback to get there!)...
• South Africa (from Johannesburg to Capetown via Zulu Natal - the long way 'round!)...
• And London (still have the rest of Great Britain to explore!)

We've taken several cruises as well - beginning in:

• The Caribbean (more or less trying to follow the Beach Boys' song, Kokomo - but it took three different cruises to get to all the places, since no one cruise went to them all!)...
• The Inland Passage of Alaska (as I mentioned earlier), and - Top of the Mark for both of us...
• A 12 day Grand Mediterranean cruise (from Barcelona to Athens with stops at port cities in Spain, France, and Italy, as well as beautiful Santorini, exotic Turkey, and historic Malta!)

Our next adventure later this year, will take us to the verdant Land
of Leprechauns - that's right, we're off to Discover Ireland, so we'll have even more to share with you later!
