Yosemite National Park Lodging: Pros and Cons

If you're visiting Yosemite Park for the first time - shoot, even if it's your 50th time! - there's no better way to get to know Yosemite intimately than to stay inside the park.  There's plenty of camping available, but there's also lodging for those who don't wish to rough it.

Pros: Lodging inside Yosemite gives you the opportunity to see and do things that are simply impossible if you stay somewhere else.

If you stay outside the park, driving time to and fro will take up some of your day, leaving less time in the park.

You may have to take time also to find someplace to eat.

You'll limit the amount of time available for hiking and exploring.

And you'll most certainly miss the sunrises, sunsets, and evening ranger activities.

Cons: Lodging inside the park is generally more expensive than that available outside the park; it's also more in demand, so you may not be able to get a reservation during the busy seasons of Spring, Summer, and Fall.

And during the busy seasons, the Valley Floor can be wall to wall bumpers and bodies, making it less of the peaceful, natural experience you were hoping for.

But if you opt for inside the park - even during the busiest times - you'll discover so much more of what Yosemite National Park is all about. And there's a variety of lodging types inside Yosemite's boundaries plus  year-round camping as well. We promise, if you stay in the park, you'll be glad you did!
