Chico's California Nut Festival

April: Time for the California Nut Festival

April is the perfect time to hold the California Nut Festival that honors one of Chico's most prolific crops and the coming of Spring to Northern California.

The rainy season is over, the hills and pastures have greened up, the days are warming, flowers are blooming, and everyone wants to be outdoors!.

This is a true foodie-destination festival - catering to food, wine, and beer lovers (need I mention Chico is home to the world-famous Sierra Nevada Brewery?) and showcasing food and beverages that are locally grown and/or produced in California.

Everyone has some connection to Chico!

California Nut Festival:
Celebrate Springtime in Chico

Almonds in Bloom by Suzi RosenbergAlmonds in Bloom by Suzi Rosenberg

Chico is quite literally surrounded by nut tree orchards, and a drive in the country during the early spring is a gorgeous sight to behold.

The almond blossoms are the most spectacular, but you'll also find walnuts, pistachios, and pecans in large numbers, as well!

This festival, one of newest of all California food festivals, takes place every year in April on the grounds of the historic Patrick Ranch Museum.

The Patrick Ranch is an exciting venue for this fun food festival, as the ranch and its buildings are being restored and utilized to create a living agriculture museum that showcases the evolution of agriculture in the Sacramento Valley.

The festival has taken shape as a grand event since its transition
from a week-long series of events that were scattered over time and place - to a one-day focal event that includes:

  • Local Food Tastings that feature nut tree products
  • Plus Food Demos by Celebrity Chefs showing how
to incorporate heart-healthy nuts into your menus
  • Local Beverage Tastings (we ARE home to Sierra
    Nevada Beer, you know!)
  • Local Vendors art, gourmet food items, olive oils,
    and other farm products
  • Musical Entertainment by local folk musicians
  • Agriculturally-based art by local artists in the Art
    Barn Art Show
  • Agricultural Displays highlighting Patrick Ranch
    ag activities
  • Glenwood Mansion; the Grande Dame of the
    Patrick Ranch
